I whipped up this quick snack the other day and thought I would share. I call it a pre-workout snack because that's basically how I use it. Of course you can eat them at anytime though. And this was not a well planned out recipe situation. I simply used items that were in my fridge and kinda threw them together. No measuring, just eyeballing.
Ingredients:
Granola (whole foods bulk)
Peanut Butter (Whole Foods 365 no sugar added)
Cacao Nibs
Coconut Oil
Flaxseed
Chia Seeds
Hemp Seed Hearts (Manitoba Harvest)
Cinnamon
Drizzle of honey to bind
I mixed all of the ingredients together and let the mixture sit in the fridge for a few hours. I them scooped spoonfuls of the mixture and rolled them into balls. And I had to add a drizzle of honey to mixture, before rolling, to help bind. Then, I sprinkled a little more chia on the balls to make them less sticky. And that was all. They taste great and give me the energy I need for a good workout.I will definitely make these again and a few other versions. I'm thinking dates, nuts, goji, some whole grains....There are so many possibilities.
Let me know what you think.
Last month I was contacted by Naturebox (a monthly subscription box that offers full size healthy snacks for $19.95/mo) and they asked if I'd be interested in reviewing their box. Of course I said yes! I am a big snacker and I try to keep most of my pretty healthy. Plus, I'm always looking for new snacks to try so I was really excited to get the opportunity to try Naturebox. I got the box about a week later and couldn't wait to open it!
Check the video to see exactly what I got!
from l to r:
Roasted Garlic Pumpkin Seeds
Country Ranch Peas
Carrot Chips
Chipotle Maple Almonds
Cinnamon Spiced Granola
Since the video I have had the chance to sample all of the snacks and I thought they were really good. My favorites were the almonds, granola and the pumpkin seeds. Overall I think this is a great box to try, especially if you love healthy snacks or if you want to start switching out some that junk food. And as I said in the video, you could easily spend $20 on this amount of product at the store so I believe Naturebox is well worth $19.95.
Naturebox is offering a 25% discount on your first month's subscription with the promo code CARROT. This discount applies to the month to month subscription only. If you buy the 6 month option you'll get one month free. And the 12 month option gets you 3 free months.
Let me know if you give it a try.
